Volunteering

Volunteering is very important to St. Vincent de Paul. It is the foundation upon which our Society is built. It allows friends to make new friends in our community by providing a caring service, helping others overcome emergent daily challenges, and become self-sustainable.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul was founded by college students in Paris, France. St. Vincent de Paul gives women and men — young and old, and from every background — the means to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frédéric Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul.

Every volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul is an important part of our effort to assist the greater Des Moines area. When committed individuals join together to help, lives can change for the better. We welcome you to our dedicated family of employees and other volunteers as well as thank you for your commitment!

Our great staff of volunteers are from all walks of life; therefore, we make use of their specific talents and skills. Consequently, every effort will be made to match the interest and skills of each volunteer with our needs. The most important qualification to be a volunteer though, is to have a caring heart and a sharing personality.

Volunteers are invited to assist St. Vincent de Paul in our retail locationspantriesEducation CenterBack2Work, and Immersion programs. A short mandatory orientation is provided monthly for new volunteers wanting to join.
